Portal to fairy land

Portal to fairy land

I spent a beautiful weekend in June chronicling my sister Morgane Richer La Flèche (morgane.xyz; insta) as she painted a beautiful anniversary mural for the Eliza Faulkner boutique in the Mile End. (Are you per chance obsessed with gorgeous linen shirts? If understandably so, Eliza Faulkner's got you covered.)

If you can, get yourself a big bright screen, rather than a phone, to feast your eyes on these bad boys. Not only is the devil in the details, but most of my favourite shots taken over the EF 1st anniversary x MRLF mural weekend are in landscape mode. I do plan to make a post on Instagram with a few of these eventually. Probably.

This was, if memory serves, my first time chronicling a painter's work and process with my camera. I hope I did the process justice, because it was fascinating to watch in person.

My trusty Nikon 📸

My DSLR is my beloved Nikon D500, which I originally got for wildlife shooting (the lens is the extremely decent AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm). This event was actually my first time taking out my Nikon in ... a shockingly long time. My hope is that this outing/project marks a change: that I'll be feeling strong enough to take my camera out with me a lot more in future.

(👩🏻‍💻 When viewing this post in your browser, clicking on a photo should make it pop-out in full-screen mode!)

Day 1 of painting. The closest thing I have to a "before" shot when most of the wall was still blank. (Also we had a surprise visit from my cousin (right) who wanted to check out the project!)
My Abuela showed up to inspect the work!
Day 2 begins with a bang!
Silver shoes and fairies...
And... the after!
And one last portrait of the artist, Morgane Richer La Flèche, in a bright magenta Eliza Faulkner dress!

The spell is complete, and the portal to fairy land is ready to be admired! Check out the painting for yourself at the Eliza Faulkner boutique on 174 rue Bernard Ouest, in the Mile-End of Montréal!
