Writing (...or not-writing) log between 7 apr to 20 apr 2025
Had some letters to write this week and finally busted through a good number of my post card stash.

This will be a short entry, as I don't feel like I have much to be long-winded about. When I first planned to start blogging again after (?) my semi-catastrophic body failure (read: illness), I needed a structure and I figured keeping writing logs of my practice would be good enough. I also told myself that even on very unproductive or simply ineffective fortnights (because you can write a lot of bullshit when you're trying to brute-force the process), I would still make an effort to update the log, so here we are.

And, well, I haven't not been writing, in my own defense. I got a new batch of 2000 words on my project Airfield (see last entry) but as I wrote on mastodon earlier this week, I'm having a strange issue with tenses that I'm clearly overthinking to death:

Both pieces of advice in the replies are genius. See the mastodon post for yourself: https://silvan.cloud/@gersande/114332295146864466

Whenever my mind sticks itself to stuff like this, it tends to grind everything to a halt because, well, clearly something isn't working and I doubt it's really the tenses. I'm not quite at the point, however, where I want to trash the whole thing. So I'm letting the project lie for a bit, and hoping when I come back to it next week, the path forward will be clearish.

(If I figure out what exactly is bothering me with the prose, I may turn that into a blog post for subscribers, with excerpts and details about what I change and why. I'm still trying to figure out how to share things with my subscribers in a way that would also still let me submit these things to literary magazines and publishers. Or maybe I just pull an Emily Dickinson and only publish these things here. We shall see.)

On the brighter, I also wrote a new poem. I usually keep drafts of things locked to paid subscribers, but as a lil' treat, here's a photo of the first draft (I already know I want to change a lot of it), if you feel brave enough for my chicken scratch:

I'm calling it the "eagle poem" in my head.

So that's all for this log. Hope your own projects are going well, and until next time!
